'Watch the path of your feet, and all your ways will be established.' (Proverbs 4:26)
There was a reason for everything that Jesus did when He lived on earth as a man. From roasting fish by the sea for his tired disciples, to turning water into a delicious drink for a sudden crowd at a wedding, to enjoying a break with little children eager to share a laugh with Him, Jesus made everyone feel comfortable.
He lived each moment the way God liked it to be. Jesus was Himself God in human form, yet chose to be like you and me.
Acts 10:38 describes how "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him".
The purpose of God coming to earth was to do good so that we can be forgiven and inherit eternal life. The Bible explains an instance where Jesus washes the feet of His disciples. In John 13:1-7, we read how Jesus wrapped a towel around His waist and washed His disciples' feet, "drying them with the towel that was wrapped around Him". What could be a more humbler thing to do than this? He set Himself as an example for the disciples to follow. This act of Jesus also highlights the need for us to be clean in our thought, word and deed, if we are to follow Him.
Ephesians 6:15 instructs us to have our feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Jesus walked long distances to convey the message of peace to people everywhere. Even if it was for one single person, Jesus would walk miles across mountains and valleys to touch and heal, and deliver that one soul from pain, sin, and death. He even walked on water to show He cared!
Isaiah 52:7 reads: "How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!'"
If we want to do what Jesus did - sharing God's love through our lives - we must be directed by God's Word. Psalm 119:104-105 says, "Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
When we align our will with God's will, and consciously do what pleases Him, we are on track and nothing can shake our faith. Then, Jesus - the God of peace - will crush Satan under our feet (Romans 16:20) and cause us to ride upon the high places of the earth (Isaiah 58:14). This means that victory and honour are reserved for those who follow Jesus in obedience to His word.
Jesus came to earth like one of us to show that we could be like Him. The Bible records in Luke 24:39-40 that when the risen Jesus appeared to His disciples, He showed them His own pierced feet, bearing the marks of His life of service and surrender to the Father in heaven. What do we have to show Him today?
God knows the struggles you are facing everyday. Yet, He also knows you are His child who would do anything for Him. Hold on to Jesus. He will see you through the rough road you are on right now. You will land in a safe place. Do not lose hope. The Saviour is with you.
