'To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.' (Jude 1:25)

What is on your mind as you read this today? You are feeling good about something you did, or wondering why you repeated a mistake that has tossed up a whole lot of things against you? Whatever it is, remember that God can change it all because He is not only powerful, but wise. One major attribute of God is His wisdom. He knows the end from the beginning. And, He knows all about you!

God's wisdom is being spoken about from cover to cover in the Bible. Psalm 147:5 says, "Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite." Ordinary people did extraordinary deeds by relying on the wisdom of God. Kings and prophets saw powerful nations fall because of God's wisdom at work. The wise king, Solomon, suggests that getting wisdom (Proverbs 4:5) is better than getting gold (Proverbs 16:16). "Get wisdom, get understanding," he says, asserting his belief in Proverbs 19:8 where he adds, "The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper."

What's this connection between wisdom and prosperity? King Solomon gives out the answer in Proverbs 8:35 where we read: "For those who find wisdom find life and receive favor from the Lord." It is a universal truth that those who choose to abide by God's word, receive His favor and are blessed by Him. Solomon confirms this again in Proverbs 21:20: "There is precious treasure and oil in the home of the wise."

In many instances, King David - Solomon's father - who was addressed by God as a "man after His own heart", refers to the rich presence of God in his life as "the oil of joy". Famous for his 'Shepherd's Psalm', David - a shepherd boy-turned-king - proclaims thus in Psalm 23:5: "You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows."

'Cup' is the path you are on at the moment; the challenges you are forced to endure; and the circumstances which seem hopeful, but may be not. Basically, 'cup' means the life you are given to live. Though chased by his enemies, accused and threatened by people he trusted, David could still say his "cup overflows", highlighting God's favor and the 'oil' of God's presence upon him. That oil of anointing gave David the power to lead a nation, conquer his enemies, build a godly kingdom and, most importantly, be close to God's heart!

If you are going through a struggle now and the end of it does not seem anywhere near, do not fear. Look to Jesus who will make your cup overflow with His goodness. Seek His Word - that precious word of wisdom, which will save you from danger, keep you away from ungodly people, and sustain you victoriously every day. Be honest with Jesus. When you confess your sins, He will help you get rid of your addictions, curses and unbelief.

Jesus will provide for your every need. Isaiah 61:3 says, God will provide for those who grieve... He will give you "the oil of joy instead of mourning", and set you above all others "by anointing you with the oil of joy". (Psalm 45:7)

When God anoints you, your blessings will only overflow. You will never be the same and your life will change for the better. Every trace of sorrow will turn to joy. You will be filled with His wisdom and riches. You will lack nothing! Receive His oil of joy today.
