Dear friend, the Bible says in Psalm 89:15, "Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound. They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance." The Jewish people know this joyful sound. The Jewish New Year is also known as the Day of Trumpets, which means to shout or make a noise on that day. Not only on New Year’s Day but whenever they celebrate any festival, they blow the trumpet first. That is why the Bible says in another translation, "Blessed are the people who know the festal shout." The Jewish people shout praises to God and make a loud cry of praise. Even on New Year’s Day, they blow the trumpet aloud. They celebrate the New Year for ten days, and on the tenth day, they confess their sins and repent before the Lord. They believe that only after that can they walk with the Lord the whole year. Likewise, when we confess our sins before the Lord, we can walk in step with His Spirit.
In Galatians 5:24, it says those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. In the next verse, it says, "If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit." Only then can we walk in the light of His countenance. In verse 26, the Bible says we must not become conceited, challenging or provoking one another, or envying one another. When we follow this Word of God, we can truly walk in the light of His presence. The joy the world offers is fleeting, but the joy the Lord gives endures forever. Blessed are those who know the joyful noise.
The Lord was with the Israelites, and in Numbers 23:21, the Bible says the shout of the King is among them. Today, we are also going to cry out that the shout of the King should be with us. When we are God’s children, shouts of joy and victory will be in our tents as Psalm 118:15 declares. "Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound. They walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance." May the Lord enable you to know the joyful sound of God.
PRAYER:
Loving Lord, I thank You for speaking to me through Your word. Help me to be aware of the joyful sound that calls me into Your loving presence. Please teach my heart to rejoice in You like the Jewish people rejoice with the trumpet and festal shout. Cleanse me, Lord, from every sin that hinders my walk with You and fill my life with shouts of praise to You, my King. Let my home be filled with songs of victory and my steps be guided by Your Holy Spirit. Let me never run after the fleeting joy of this world, but instead, abide in the enduring joy that flows from Your countenance. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
