Every person who knows Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour and Lord can say how mighty, holy, humble and compassionate He is. Though Jesus is the Ruler of the world, He is accessible to anyone who calls upon His name. He is fondly called the 'Good Shepherd' because of His caring nature - the way He protects those who follow Him is beyond human understanding.

Such a Shepherd's qualities can be exhibited by those preaching the goodness of Jesus to a hurting world. Leaders, pastors, evangelists and anyone sharing the love of God must reflect Jesus by humbling themselves just as their Master did.

Jesus left His heavenly throne to come down to earth and suffer death on the Cross to free the human race of sin. He stooped down like a servant, as a slave would, to endure shame and pain for humanity’s sake to redeem it through His sacrifice for their forgiveness from their sin.He rose from the dead, conquering death itself. The resurrection of Jesus symbolises victory over death. His Lordship proclaims the hope of eternal life to all who seek Him and are saved. So today, as we humble ourselves before the Lord surrendering ourselves to live as Him in holiness - free from sin - He empowers us to rise to greatness just as He did.

Moreover, as we humble ourselves showing love even to those who have hurt us and hate us, God makes us rise up above them all. Humility is a virtue that shows others who we are in Jesus Christ. In Luke 9:23, Jesus says, "If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me." This does not mean that those who follow Jesus are destined to remain low in life. An elevation is promised for those who submit to Him.

In 2 Peter 2:9, we read: "... the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment." John 12:26 clearly says that whoever serves Jesus must follow Him, and God, the Father will honour that person. There is a person the Bible talks about who lived around 1,400 years before Jesus. God Himself testified of him as being very humble. He was given the task of leading a huge multitude of people from bondage to a land of liberty and inheritance. He was Moses - the one who God used to part the Red Sea. Moses was once spoken of badly by his own brother and sister. Aaron, a high priest, who was the elder brother of Moses, joined with their sister Miriam, a prophetess, to accuse Moses. God was so angry with them that He summoned them, and Moses too, and spoke up for Moses, in Numbers 12:8, saying, "With him (Moses) I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?” Since Miriam was the first to ignite wrong ideas about Moses, she was stricken with leprosy, from which she recovered only because Moses interceded on her behalf with a quick prayer. Such was Moses' humility that drew God's attention.

The Lord has given a particular task to each of us. No matter what your occupation is, you can bring many people to Jesus. Just by seeing your humility, people will know who Jesus is. In Luke 14:27, Jesus says: "And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple." John, one of Jesus' disciples, says in I John 2:6, "Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did." We see three blessings being bestowed on us when we follow Jesus in humility. First, God will redeem our soul from death. Psalm 34:22 says, "The Lord redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned." Second, God will protect us by His compassion. Psalm 135:14 reads: "For the Lord will judge His people, And He will have compassion on His servants." God Himself will come to our defence. Isaiah 54:17 says, no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper. "This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.Third, God will prosper us. Psalm 35:27 says, "Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, 'Let the Lord be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant'.” Added to all this is a heavenly assurance too. In John 14:3, Jesus says, I will go and prepare a mansion for you because you have served Me faithfully. I will come back to earth a second time to take you with Me.

Be courageous. Stay humble. Jesus loves you, and for every good work you do for Him, you will receive your reward -  right here on this earth, and in the life to come.
