My dear friends, it is a joy to see you today. Let us meditate on Nehemiah 1:9, where the Lord says, “I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen.” When we read this verse in its entirety, we see God's wonderful promise: “If you return to Me and obey My commands, then even if your exiled people are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for My Name.”
What a comforting assurance! No matter how far we may have wandered, when we return to God, He will lovingly bring us back to the place He has prepared and chosen for us. Many times, we run away from God, believing, “I know what is best for my life.” We choose our own path, thinking we know where true happiness lies. It may be a particular job, a city we long to live in, or a lifestyle we desire. In pursuing these things, we slowly move away from the Lord and from His perfect plan for our lives. We leave behind His presence and the place He has chosen for us.
This reminds us of the story of the prodigal son. He left his father's house, believing he would find greater joy in the world. He wanted to enjoy life on his own terms, so he took his inheritance and went to a distant country, convinced that it was the best place for him. However, after spending everything he had, he lost his wealth, his comfort, and his peace. In his lowest moment, he remembered his father. He thought about the life he once had—the comfort, the joy, and the security of living in his father's house, where he never had to worry about anything. Realizing his mistake, he decided to return home, even if it meant living only as a servant. As he journeyed back, he feared that his father would reject him. He expected to plead for mercy and ask to be accepted as one of the servants. But the moment his father saw him from a distance, he ran toward him, embraced him, and welcomed him with great love. He restored him, clothed him with honor, and received him as his beloved son once again because he knew his son had truly repented.
This is exactly how our Heavenly Father responds to us. When we leave behind our worldly pleasures, sinful ways, and self-centered desires, and return to Him with a repentant heart, He does not condemn us. Instead, He forgives us, restores us, and places us once again in the position He has prepared for us. Just as His Word says, He gathers us from wherever we are and brings us to the place He has chosen as a dwelling for His Name. The Lord asks only one thing of us—to return to Him, obey His commands, and live according to His will. When we do, He will establish us in the right place, the place He has always intended for our lives.
Today, leave behind every worldly pleasure and every worldly desire. God is waiting for your return. He longs to receive you with open arms, just as the father welcomed the prodigal son. Today, make the decision to return to Him. Commit your life once again into His hands, because God has wonderful plans for your future.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me even when I wander away from You. Forgive me for every time I have chosen my own way instead of Your perfect will. Today, I return to You with all my heart. Restore my life, gather every broken piece, and lead me to the place You have prepared for me. Help me to obey Your commands and delight in Your ways each day. Remove every worldly desire that keeps me away from You and fill my heart with Your peace and purpose. Establish me in the center of Your will and make my life a testimony of Your restoring grace. In Jesus' name, I pray, Amen.
