My precious friend, God said to Abraham, “I am your shield and your very great reward” (Genesis 15:1). Another translation says, “I am your exceedingly great reward.” Yes, God gives us much more than what we ask. He does much greater things than what we expect. That is the heart of God. He opens the windows of heaven and pours down a blessing which we cannot hold. That is His heart. When He gives, He also protects it. In the life of Abraham, he simply believed in doing what God asked him to do. He went where God wanted him to walk and did righteous dealings with the people of each country where God led him.
When the Lord gave him a son, the Lord asked Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac. Abraham went on to do it. But God stopped him at the last moment and said, “Now I know you fear Me. I will bless your son, and I will increase you. Without limit, I will be your exceedingly great reward.” That is what God is going to do for you. You have been obedient. You have trusted God. You have moved in faith where God wanted you to go. God will be your exceedingly great reward, and He will protect you.
Firstly, in Colossians 3:23–24, God gives us this exceeding great reward for those who do what God asks them to do, not people who do things to please men, not people who do things for their benefit, for their fame, for their glory, and not people who serve the Lord and do spiritual things to get worldly benefits. But those who carry the little ones, the poor, the suffering, the castaways in the name of Jesus, they will have the great exceeding reward from the Lord and the presence of God and the joy of the Lord. Secondly, in Hebrews 11:6, He gives this reward to those who trust Him with their life. In the midst of all the attacks and the evil, those who trust the Lord, saying, “God will not let me down,” will have this exceedingly great reward. Thirdly, in Galatians 6:9, those who are never weary in doing good will have this exceedingly great reward. Even though their labour may not bring forth fruit and people may not understand or appreciate what they do in the name of the Lord, as they continue, never being weary in doing good, they will have an exceedingly great reward. May God give you this blessing.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, You are my shield and my exceedingly great reward. Help me to obey You faithfully, just as Abraham did. Teach me to walk where You lead and to do what pleases You. Remove every desire to seek praise, fame, or worldly gain. Fill my heart with compassion for the poor, the suffering, and the brokenhearted. Give me the faith to trust You even in the midst of trials and attacks. Strengthen me so that I will never grow weary in doing good. Let Your presence and Your joy be my greatest reward. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
