Dear friend, it's a joy to greet you today. As written in II Corinthians 2:15, Paul says, "For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing." In the previous verse, he declares, "Thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of Him everywhere." The Lord Himself does this for us. He takes hold of our hands and leads us in a triumphal procession. God calls you the aroma of Christ Himself. In the olden days, after conquering cities, kings would hold grand parades where incense was burned, the spoils of war were displayed, and the crowds would cheer them on. But Paul says you are the incense; you are the sweet fragrance rising up to God.
By living a righteous life, we have the opportunity to spread the aroma of Christ. Living righteously is not optional; it is essential because it means having God within us. In the Old Testament, Aaron and the priests were anointed with holy oil. This oil flowed over their heads, beards, and garments, covering them with a sweet-smelling fragrance. That is why the Lord says in Ezekiel 20:41, "I will accept you as a fragrant incense." But what is this incense? Isaiah 11:3 tells us clearly that the fear of the Lord is the incense. When we live in reverence and awe of God, we become a pleasing aroma to Him.
You are called to live in a way that reflects the character of Jesus Himself. By living like Christ, you become a fragrant gift to the whole world. As Proverbs 27:9 beautifully says, “Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart.” Yes, may the Lord use you as His fragrance to bring joy, comfort, and peace to those around you. May He fill you with His presence, may He fill you with the knowledge of God, and may He make you just like Him.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to be the aroma of Christ. Let my life reflect Your beauty, grace, and righteousness. Please fill me with Your presence and lead me in Your truth. Let every word I speak and every action I take carry the fragrance of Christ. Help me to live in reverent fear of You, bringing joy to those around me and glory to Your name. Make me a living incense, Lord, pleasing to You and a blessing to the world. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
