Dearly beloved, today’s promise is from Genesis 28:15: “I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” The Lord will never forsake you. He will fulfil everything He has promised you. With the Lord’s help, a person may carry out a task, but it is the Lord who brings about the result. We see this in the incident recorded in 1 Samuel 14:45 concerning Jonathan.
Similarly, let us read Genesis 28:13–15. Jacob left his home as a refugee, with nothing but a staff in his hand. Not knowing where he was going, he obeyed his mother’s command and went in search of his father-in-law’s house, wherever it might be. He had to travel many miles across different lands. But Jacob walked in obedience to the Lord. Then night fell. He took a stone, placed it under his head as a pillow, and lay down to sleep. At that moment, the Lord came seeking him and spoke to him through a dream. Yes, there was only a stone under his head. Darkness surrounded him. He was lying on the bare ground with nothing but a staff in his hand. There was no one to stand by him. He had once lived with such a high status, but now he seemed to have nothing. My dear friends, you may be in a similar situation today. Do not say, “Now I am lying here in emptiness.” If you are journeying like Jacob and living in obedience to the Lord, even in such a difficult time, the Lord will come seeking you. He is seeking you today!
The Lord said to Jacob, “I am the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying.” The Lord promised to give him that land. Even though Jacob was a refugee at that time, God promised that all those lands would belong to him and his descendants. The Lord promised to give him the nation as his own. Are you being rejected, driven away, humiliated, or mistreated today for the sake of the Lord’s name? The Lord will establish you and give you an inheritance. As you obey Him, you are going to the place where you are supposed to go and doing the work that needs to be done. Therefore, the Lord says, “I will not forsake you. I will give you the nation.”
Your offspring will be like the dust of the earth. You will multiply and spread out in all directions. Yes, the Lord gives you this blessing, and He extends it to your offspring. Today, the Lord will establish your offspring firmly and make your life secure. The Lord says in verse 15, “I will be with you and protect you wherever you go.” He promises to protect you. Wicked people may rise up against you and try to swallow you up, but they will not prevail. The Lord will drive them away and bring you back to the place He has prepared for you.
How did the Lord bring Jacob back? He brought him back with abundant blessings. According to Genesis 32:10, Jacob acknowledged that he had crossed the Jordan with only his staff in his hand, but now he had become two companies. He had worked for his father-in-law for fourteen years, made sacrifices, followed the Lord with reverence, and fulfilled the purposes God had for him. The Lord showed him favour. Jacob received great wealth, prosperity, abundant blessings, a blessed family life, children, and strength. My dear friends, the Lord will also work in your life. He will bless you and give you increase. Be courageous!
Prayer:
Dear Father, fulfil every promise You have given Your children. Bless those who hold on to Your promises and prophecies, pray faithfully, live holy lives, obey You, and walk in Your ways even when they have lost everything. Make them prosper and multiply their blessings. Give them wisdom and cause everything they do to succeed. Command an increase in their lives and establish their families securely. Protect them so that no evil can touch them, and guard them against jealousy and wickedness. Speak to them, guide them, and lead them in Your perfect will. Let Your promised blessings descend upon them today. Thank You for Your grace and unfailing presence. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
