My dear friend, it’s a joy for me to greet you this morning. Today, we’re meditating on Matthew 16:19, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven.” What does the kingdom of heaven signify? It signifies the things of God. And we read that God gives us the keys to the kingdom of heaven. These keys unlock three things in our lives.
Firstly, they give access. In Matthew 16, when Jesus asks His disciples, “Who do you say I am?”, Peter replies, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Because he acknowledged Jesus, Jesus said to him, “I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” Peter gained access to the things of God. Even today, when we acknowledge Jesus as the living God, we are given access to the things of God. We become connected to Him, and we gain access to the living God.
Secondly, these keys give us authority. Authority to do what? In the same scripture, Jesus says, “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” So, God gives us the authority to bind everything that comes against us. Whatever we say by the power of God, He will make it happen. This is what we read, “Whatever you ask in My name, I will do it.” When we hold the keys of the kingdom, we have authority. When we ask in Jesus’ name, He will do it.
Thirdly, these keys give us insight. When we look through our own flesh, our own mind, we only see what is impossible. When we are stuck in a situation, we feel discouraged because we don't know what’s next. But with the keys to the kingdom of heaven, we are given insight, divine insight, into what is beyond. God will reveal things to you when you are connected with Him. When Peter said, “You are the Messiah,” it was revealed not by flesh and blood but by the Father in heaven. That was divine insight.
So, how do we receive these keys to the kingdom of heaven, to the things of God? Trust in God. Acknowledge who He is. Be connected with Him. Be sincere in your walk with God. Be righteous and holy in your life. Follow God’s command, and He will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Are you hungry to know what is going to happen in your life? Are you hungry to know what is next, what lies beyond what your eyes can see? Then you need these keys. And when you have them, God will reveal everything to you. You will have access, authority, and insight into the kingdom of heaven, not only for your own life. God gives you the authority to open the doors of the kingdom of heaven for others, to share the gospel and bring God’s plans into their lives. What a powerful gift!
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for the promise of the keys to Your kingdom. I acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah, the Son of the living God. Grant me access to Your divine presence and Your holy ways. Fill me with authority to bind evil and release Your will on earth. Let every word I pray in Jesus’ name carry heavenly power. Open my eyes, Lord, to see beyond, to understand by Your Spirit. Give me divine insight when my own sight falls short. Use me to unlock Your kingdom for others, to bring them into Your truth. Keep me connected, sincere, holy, and faithful to You always. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
