My friend, the Lord adds days and years to our lives not to increase our sorrow, but to let us experience His goodness and become a blessing to others. Romans 15:2 says, “Each of us should please our neighbours for their good, to build them up.” God has placed us in our families, neighbourhoods, workplaces and communities to strengthen those around us. Jesus said in John 13:34, “Love one another; as I have loved you, so you also love one another.” He corrected His disciples when they went wrong, cared for them in their struggles, provided for their needs and helped them grow. Likewise, we must treat others with love, patience and understanding, asking ourselves, “If I were in their place, how would I want to be treated?” When we reflect Christ’s love, our lives become channels of blessing.

True love chooses forgiveness over bitterness and reconciliation over resentment. I remember a man who attended a prayer meeting seeking the infilling of the Holy Spirit. When the preacher encouraged everyone to forgive those who had hurt them, he went to his elder sister, who had taken possession of his land and property. Instead of holding on to bitterness, he asked her to forgive him for the angry words he had spoken. His heart was filled with peace, and when he returned to the meeting, he experienced the mighty presence of the Lord. Colossians 3:13 says, “Forgive each other, as the Lord has forgiven you.” Galatians 6:2 also says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Let us respond compassionately to those facing financial difficulties, sickness, loneliness or other struggles, offering practical help wherever possible. As we carry the burdens of others, the Lord will sustain and strengthen us.

Our words and prayers will also build up those around us. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Encourage one another and build one another up.” A timely word from God can restore hope and strengthen someone’s faith. When my children were studying in college, the Lord would often give me a Scripture to share with them. Sometimes, they would be moved to tears and say, “This is exactly what I needed.” As we walk closely with the Lord, He will help us speak the right words at the right time. The Lord also gave my father, D.G.S. Dhinakaran, a heart filled with compassion for suffering people. On October 2, 1994, He reminded me of His promise: “When you weep for the people, I will come and see your tears. When I see the tears you shed in compassion for the people, I will wipe away their tears.” God desires to develop this same compassion in us, so that we not only recognise another person’s pain but also respond through loving action and sincere prayer.

Every person God brings into our lives is an opportunity to demonstrate His love. Through the Jesus Calls Ministry, we reach people in distress, pray with them and help them experience the grace of Jesus. You can participate by joining the Jesus Calls Prayer Tower and devoting two hours each week to praying for those in need. You can pray from home using a computer or laptop, with training and guidance provided. PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to be a blessing to others. Fill my heart with Your love and compassion, and teach me to love as Jesus loves. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me and seek peace in every relationship. Give me a heart that recognises the pain of others and the willingness to share their burdens. Place words of wisdom, comfort and encouragement in my mouth to strengthen those who are weary. Holy Spirit, guide me to respond to every person with kindness, patience and understanding. In Jesus’ precious name, I pray. Amen.
